The next time someone in the US dials 911 during an emergency, an Indian company may be providing the technology at the backend.

Kavveri Telecom, a Bangalore-based telecom products manufacturer, has bought US-based WPCS International’s wireless communications division, which makes wireless systems used by police officers, firemen and other emergency services providers.

Kavveri makes cellphone tower antennas, Radio Frequency (RF) components, repeaters and other telecom products. WPCS International, which has operations in Lakewood, New Jersey and Hartford Connecticut, provides infrastructure for companies in the energy and utility sector, healthcare, educational institutions and public services organisations worldwide.

The wireless communications division of WPCS provides systems such as Wi-Fi and WiMax, along with cell site management, to meet the mobile communication requirements of various organizations.

Industry analysts feel that this will strengthen Kavveri’s wireless solutions portfolio while opening up the doors for the company’s telecom products in the US market.  Shivakumar Reddy, Managing Director of Kavveri Telecom Products Ltd said: “The acquisition not only enhances our wireless systems solutions capabilities but will help us in expanding and strengthening our sales channels for our products in the US.”

Kavveri acquired WPCS International’s wireless communications division through Kavveri Technologies America Inc, its US subsidiary. Since 2006, the company has acquired six companies, five of which are on the American continent.

In April, impressed by its expansion plans and its focus, ICRA assigned a higher grade to the company, citing good fundamentals.
